Church Street Studios are home to a variety of independent music and audio professionals.

From permanent tenants to short term visiting film composers, music producers and sound designers.  Many of our members also teach and guest lecturer at AIM, SAE, AFTRS and The NSW Conservatorium of Music.

Diego Baldenweg with Nora Baldenweg & Lionel Vincent Baldenweg, also known as GREAT GARBO, are a multi award winning composer team. The three Swiss/Australian siblings have composed music for over 300 international TV campaigns including Carlsberg, Mastercard, Sony & Dove (3rd most viewed online campaign of all time in 2014).  They have scored over 20 films like the world bestselling children’s book adaptation “The Little Witch” starring Karoline Herfurth, the international remake of Til Schweiger’s German box office hit “Head Full of Honey” starring Nick Nolte, Matt Dillon & Emily Mortimer, and Oscar nominated “La Femme et le TGV” starring Jane Birkin. Most recently they have composed the entire score to the new ABC/Netflix sci-fi TV series “The Unlisted” for Aquarius Films. They are members of the Australian Academy of Cinema & TV Arts, Swiss Film Academy, European Film Academy, Swiss Media Composers Association and the Australian Guild of Screen Composers.

Eleanor Summers

Eleanor Summers has always been captivated by music; the processes of listening, analysing, conceiving and executing.  The skills Eleanor acquired at JMC Academy, as well as her musical background are demonstrated in the in the breadth and the depth of her technical capabilities as a musician and producer/engineer.  She currently works alongside Sean Carey, one of Australia’s premier musicians and producer-engineers at Church Street Studios (Studio C)

 

Guy Gross

Guy Gross is an Australian film and television composer, recipient of the APRA/AGSC International Achievement Award, past President of the Australian Guild of Screen Composers and APRA Ambassador. From his British Academy Award (BAFTA) nominated score to the international hit "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert to the US SCI-FI series "Farscape", his film scores cover a huge variety of styles. Testament to this diversity, Guy has received numerous peer awards including Best Music for a Documentary, Children's Series, Short film, Animation, Promotional Video, Advertisement, TV Theme, Song and twice for Best Music for a TV Series. Recent projects include scores for the ABC TV drama series Pulse, and the feature film Swinging Safari.

Jason Fernandez

Jason is recognised for his striking and original approaches to films, coming up with distinctive musical ideas that further the narrative in unexpected ways.  Jason has performed varied roles as a composer, score producer and music editor for more than 15 years with directors like George Miller, Baz Luhrmann, Kimble Rendall, Gregor Jordan, Russell Crowe, and many others. A rare combination of musical and technical ability, Jason is also widely sought after for his musical-technical skills, including the testing and development of music software and sounds for most of the leading software creators. In addition to this, he develops his own processes in Reaktor and other software - leading his music into beautiful unexplored sonic territory.

Maria Alfonsine

Stage & Screen Composer/Lyricist Maria Alfonsine’s focus is always; "It's all about the story", no matter what medium or style she is working in. By turns playful and reflective, she finds inspiration in everyday life, the inequalities of the world and the force of nature, and through her art she wishes to communicate awareness, insight and courage. When not working with traditional instruments, she uses her voice and body to create organic soundscapes full of observations. Maria is currently composing music for the comedy sketches Too Pretty To Be Witty selected by ABC and Screen Australia's Fresh Blood Program, Deception - an installation by Lea Kannar-Lichtenberger, a line of short film productions, as well as being the recipient of Screen NSW Composer’s Attachment with Guy Gross for the ABC TV series “Pulse”.

Matt Druery

Born into a musical family, Matt first touched the drum set as a baby, and has since become a well-rounded and diverse musician. A multi-instrumentalist, composer/songwriter, producer/engineer and bandleader, Matt has performed in some of the most coveted venues locally, including the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Entertainment Centre, and internationally, having toured China in April 2013 and the United States in December 2014, the latter as part of the NSW Symphonic Wind Ensemble. After graduating Newtown High School of the Performing Arts in 2015, Matt has gone on to study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and then at Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music, but is currently back in Sydney to complete the final stages of his debut release of original material.

Michelle Barry

Michelle Barry is a professional producer/sound engineer from Sydney.  With a great love for music, she started engineering at Paradise Studio in 1990.   This gave her the opportunity to work with many independent Australian musicians of the time before refining her craft in studios at home, London and NYC.  Highlights along the way included US indie artists Jessie Murphy In The Woods, Julian Verlard, The Pierces. UK funk from RnB Junior and G-Nation, and Sydney Hip Hop artists Maya Jupiter, Ebony Williams.  2018, included recording and mixing for folk group The Charm, singer/guitarist Max Gencher, her own initiative Noisygirls, as well as skill sharing through teaching at SAE.

Oscar Gross

A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Oscar Gross (aka Oscar Joe) is a singer songwriter, film composer and multi instrumentalist. In 2018 he won Best Original Song Composed for the Screen and already has a number of credits to his name including a co-write for the Australian feature film "A Heart Beat Away", the opening theme for the TV show Village Vets and a number of on-line movie credits. He plays electric and double bass, guitar, piano, ukulele, accordion and most things he puts his mind to.  Oscar also teaches piano and guitar and regularly gigs around Sydney going by the stage name, Oscar Joe.

Rory Steuart

Rory Steuart is a sound designer for film, TV & Games. After graduating from the Australian Institute of Music with a Bachelor of Audio Engineering, he began working at King Sound Studios, recording, editing and mixing audio for TV and radio. With a love for cinema and hunger for creation, Rory began work sound designing for screen.

In recent years he has worked with clients such as Sony and the Singaporean Tourism Board. Incorporating his music production and engineering knowledge, as well as his passion for sampling the strange and interesting sounds of the natural world, Rory is able to create original textures and soundscapes to compliment the vision of the filmmaker.

Sean Carey

Sean Carey is an Emmy award winning music producer, recording engineer, musician and songwriter. He is the music director and vocal producer for acclaimed Netflix series Motown Magic and Beat Bugs and has worked with industry greats such as Cat Stevens, Don Was, Daniel Johns and Skylar Grey in many iconic studios such as Capitol Records, Village Records LA, Germano NYC and 301, Sing Sing and Trackdown Studios in Australia. He is the former guitarist for 5 time ARIA nominated, multi platinum selling band Thirsty Merc.

Blair Slater

Blair is an Academy Award winning foley artist and sound designer and runs his company Longstocking Studios within the Church St complex. He has an enormous credit list (IMDb) with some recent notables such as Mad Max: Fury Road, Deep State, and Picnic at Hanging Rock. He heads up a dedicated team of leading foley walkers and editors.

Caitlin Yeo

Past President of the Australian Guild of Screen composers and a graduate of Screen Composition at AFTRS, Caitlin Yeo has composed the music for many film and TV projects including critically acclaimed feature film The Rocket, Priscilla Cameron’s The Butterfly Tree, channel 7 Tele-movie The Killing Field, the TV themes, Tashi and Compass, and The House With Annabel Crabb. Caitlin's musical style comes from a fascination with music from different cultures, 20th century composition and a deep love of telling stories with music. Caitlin has received a swathe of accolades including APRA screen music awards; Feature Score of the Year for The Rocket (2013), Best Music for a documentary for Getting Frank Gehry (2016), and Bomb Harvest (2007), an OzFlix award for After The Apology, and been nominated twice for an AACTA award. The feature Danger Close is her most recent score.

Damian de Boos-Smith

Damian is a composer and producer for advertising and prime time TV via his company Sound Planet.  He has also freelanced for Nylon Studios and Turning Studios and is a session multi-instrumentalist in high demand. His recent work includes include prime time reality shows: The Block, The Force, My Kitchen Rules and TVCs for NRL, AFL, Telstra, and also FedEx, Wrigleys, McDonalds, Pepsi, LG, Toyota, Ford, Westfield, ING, ANZ.  He specialises at delivering under tight deadlines.
